The Global Organic Farmer education takes 3,5 years and gives students from both Denmark and other EU countries an opportunity to learn about organic farming at a high professional level. This education offers you to work with agriculture and organic food production in an international and global perspective.
Admission requirements for Global Organic Farmer is a high school diploma or equivalent. The teaching language of the education is English and therefore students must be able to speak and write English on a basic level.
Objective and course organisation
The main objective of the Global Organic Farmer education is to become an organic farmer who has high skilled practical experience and a thorough professional knowledge about organic farming, sustainability and internationalization.
This should enable you to adapt to the different changes happening in the agricultural profession around the world. Students learn about profitable sustainable food production, the economy of the niche production, from producer to consumer and from farm to table concepts.
The program consists of a 12-week basic course at the agricultural college. The students will be required to do 8 months of internship of which a minimum of 3 months has to be outside of Denmark.
After the first internship period, the students return to college and attend the first main course for 11 weeks. When they have passed the exams, their second training period follows to extend their practical skills even further and specialise in a production branch such as plants or livestock. The education ends with a 20-week second main course back at college and a final exam.
Basic Course (12 weeks)
- a hands-on education at the college’s farm and stables, workshop and machine facilities as well as in the field
- helping with caretaking of our livestock, harvesting vegetables, learning how to drive a tractor and use different machines.
- Basic knowledge of plants and livestock with focus on pig and cattle production.
- Mandatory courses on safety in the workplace such as first aid and welding safety.
- International perspective on agriculture.
After completing the first internship period, you return to Kalø Organic Agricultural College for a second college period. The experiences and acquired skills from the internship will be tied together with agricultural theory to deepen your professional knowledge.

This course is the final step in becoming a certified Global Organic Farmer. The second main course will go even further in depth in regards to agricultural and professional knowledge of your speciality.
The focus is on agricultural economy both nationally and internationally, while you continue to deepen your knowledge on issues such as sustainability, globalization and the internationalization of agriculture.
All subjects and topics are linked closely to the current agriculture and will prepare you for the reality of being a farmer/working in agriculture as a professional after the final exam.
The courses are a combination of classroom teaching, independent study and project-related work. Additionally, there is a hands-on practical education at the college’s farm, workshop, machine facilities and out on the field.
During your education at the college, there will be regular visits and study tours to Danish farms where it is possible to learn about corporate successes, challenges, and for you to become inspired to which path you wish to follow after you graduate.
